The Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce business members learned about the significance of placing priority on personal wellness during the monthly luncheon hosted at Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort. Scott Kashman, FACHE, with Lee Memorial Health System was the guest speaker.
“Businesses see more productivity from employees who lead a healthy lifestyle,” said Kashman, LMHS chief administrative officer. “This includes you, too.”
LMHS is Southwest Florida's largest employer, according to the Southwest Florida Economic Development Alliance. Turning 100 this year, it is also one of the area's oldest businesses. Since the opening of its first hospital, it continues to be a health care leader in SWFL.
A 10-day jump start to a healthier lifestyle program was created to help residents adopt a whole food, plant-based eating plan. It has shown to promote several health benefits, including weight loss, increased energy, a reduction in cholesterol and blood sugar, clearer thinking and more. The Healthy Lee initiative was developed as a community collaboration of grassroots organizations to further bring wellness to Lee County. “The future is in our hands. It doesn't have to be done all at once, but you must be a part of the solution,” Kashman concluded.
